Mary's answers to a few questions about working with the District:
What is your favorite part of your job?
The best part of my job is the people I work with. Our staff is incredibly friendly, and over time we’ve built relationships that truly feel like family. The supportive atmosphere makes coming to work every day enjoyable.
What background brought you to this job?

Before joining the District, I built a long and rewarding career in the private sector in property management. After a long tenure in that field, I was ready for a new challenge in public service. When I came across this position, the responsibilities in payroll and accounting aligned perfectly with my background. I was especially drawn to the smaller team environment, which allows for smoother operations and a less stressful pace compared to my previous role.
What is something you with everyone knew about mosquitoes?
Before I started here, I didn’t even realize mosquito control programs existed! One of the most effective ways to prevent mosquitoes is also the simplest—regularly dumping out standing water. I also want people to know that they don’t have to tolerate rodents invading their homes. The District provides helpful guidance and resources to address these problems early, before they become more serious.
What are the most frequent questions you get calls about?
Most of the calls we receive are about mosquitoes, yellowjacket or wasp removal, and rodent issues. Many residents are pleasantly surprised to learn that all of our services are provided at no cost. They’re often grateful to discover that a public agency is dedicated to helping them with these everyday concerns.
What is something you wish more people knew about the District?
I wish more people knew that the District offers far more than mosquito control. We also assist with rodent problems, yellowjacket and wasp nest removal, insect identification, and other vector-related issues. When residents contact us about one problem, I always make sure to share the full range of services available—so they know they what we offer.
