We are happy to work with local scouting troops, particulary for tick education. Our Public Health Education and Outreach Officer, Rachel, is not currently a Merit Badge Counselor for Insect Study for Scouts of America, but is available to help scouts prepare the various requirements to complete the badge (scouts will have to have a MBC sign off). Rachel has also worked with several local Girl Scout troops, from Daisies to Cadettes.
Presentations are customized for the age group and interests of the scouts, and interactive activities are always included. Presentations can be arranged for groups during regular scouting meetings, or meeting at a trail head in San Mateo County on weekends.
Scouts and adults will receive tick removal keys as part of the outreach presentation.
Also available to scout groups are presentations and activities about the mosquito life cycle and how scouts can play an important role in keeping their neighborhoods mosquito-free.
You can reach out to Rachel at rcurtis@smcmvcd.org to schedule a presentation.
