San Mateo County Mosquito & Vector Control District Receives Awards
Burlingame, CA (September 27, 2024) - The San Mateo County Mosquito & Vector Control District recently received three awards recognizing its commitment to governmental transparency and fiscal accountability.
“Sound financial policies and transparency of District affairs are priorities for our staff and Board,” stated District Manager Brian Weber. “These awards are an affirmation of our commitment to high standards of public service.”
The District received two awards from the California Special District Leadership Foundation – the Transparency Certificate of Excellence and accreditation as a District of Distinction.
The Transparency Certificate of Excellence distinguishes the District’s outstanding efforts to promote transparency and good governance. The District has regularly received Transparency Certificates of Excellence since its first certification in 2016.
The District of Distinction accreditation recognizes the District’s sound fiscal management policies and practices in district operations. The District has continually maintained its District of Distinction status since first being awarded in 2017.
In addition, the District was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2023. This is the 6th consecutive year the District has been awarded.
“Our Board and staff take great pride in overseeing the prudent use of taxpayers’ dollars,” said Mason Brutschy, President of the District’s Board of Trustees. “We are pleased to receive these awards in recognition of our efforts.”
To receive the awards, the District demonstrated governance transparency requirements, including:
- Conducting ethics and harassment prevention training for all board members and executive staff.
- Properly conducting open and public meetings.
- Filing financial transactions and compensation reports to the State Controller in a timely manner.
- Posting board meeting schedule, agendas, and election procedures on the District website.
- Posting current District budget and most recent financial audit on the District website.
- Posting a list of compensation of board members and staff on District website, or posting a link to the State Controller’s webpage with the data.
- Demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate the District’s financial story and motivate people to read the District’s financial report.
