Other small mammals

Green grass lawn with small mounds of dark brown dirt pile.
Gophers, moles, and voles are common culprits behind lawn problems.

Gophers and moles

Gophers and moles are landscaping pests but represent little risk to human health. You can find information on the University of California ANR website about controlling gophers and moles.

Voles/Meadow mice

Voles (Microtus spp.) are landscaping and agricultural pests but also contribute to many endemic disease cycles such as tularemia and plague. They do not colonize human buildings and rarely come into direct contact with humans. You can find information on the University of California ANR website about managing voles.
