Louis's answers to a few questions about working with the District:

What is your favorite thing about working at the District?

My favorite thing is how happy people are to see us when we show up.  It’s like we are superheroes of some sort.  People are always very thankful for what we do. I feel like people really do appreciate the services we provide and don’t take us for granted.  Being a part of that makes me happy and puts a big smile on my face.

What is something you've learned on the job?

I didn’t know there were different kinds of mosquitoes, period.  And now, I know there are a lot and that they have different appetites, different water they breed in, different habitats, and flight ranges. Just from being on-the-job, there’s a lot more to mosquitoes that I realized.  We use all those facts to help us find the sources where they are breeding.

Our staff work throughout the entire County. What is the best view in the County?

One of my favorite views is driving down Trousdale from Skyline to our buildings in Burlingame – the Bay is a beautiful view when you’re driving. And then also when I go on Old Bayshore and you can see SFO, the Bay, and see the planes landing and taking off.  It’s nice to sit there for a minute and see the view.  A great place to eat a sandwich and look at the airplanes.

Tell us more about the facilities maintenance part of your role at the District.

This is the first facility I’ve worked at with solar panels. So I’ve been able to learn more about solar panels – maintenance, upkeep, repairs. We use an app to monitor energy generation and the District’s usage. Monitoring ensures that the panels are functioning properly; there were some issues earlier this year that we were able to detect and resolve based on checking the levels in the app.
