The total number of service requests in March were well above average (377 compared to a five-year average of 214 in March). Mosquito-related service requests were especially high, with 186 this March compared to a five-year average of 84. Unusually warm weather led to greater insect activity, including mosquitoes and similar flies. Yellowjackets/wasp service requests were also much higher than usual, with 56 requests compared to a five-year average of 29. Most of these wasps were paper wasps and mud daubers, which build nests in the spring.

Service requests in the category “other” included insect-related inquiries about crane flies, fleas, bumble bees and other bees, and midges, along with other arthropod-related requests involving mites.
