Rodents

A rat peeks from behind a log.

Rats need many of the same things we do: food to eat, water to drink, a safe place to live, and the company of their families. Unfortunately, they sometimes find those resources in our neighborhoods. Commensal rodents, such as roof rats, Norway rats, and house mice, have been associated with people for hundreds of years. They live on our food and waste products and inhabit our buildings.

Public Education

Public education is one of the most important parts of the District’s IPM (integrated pest management) program. Without the help of residents, it would be impossible for the District to achieve its mission to “safeguard the health and comfort of the citizens of San Mateo County through a planned program to monitor and reduce mosquitoes and other vectors”.
