West Nile Virus Season Ends
The District will continue limited testing over the winter
The West Nile Virus (WNV) season has ended for 2016, although the laboratory will continue testing some birds (corvids, hawks, sparrows, finches and owls) through the winter. Residents can continue to leave a dead bird report at the state hotline 1-877-WNV-BIRD or online at http://westnile.ca.gov/. The final chicken bleeding will be November 5. This year, the District detected WNV in fourteen birds, five mosquito pools, and no squirrels or chickens. No human cases of WNV occurred within San Mateo County.
